The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government inked a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the University of Nottingham, a public university in England, to collaborate in supporting NTB’s net zero emission (NZE) program. According to the provincial government’s statement on February 15, 2023, the letter was signed at the campus of University of Nottingham, England, on February 16, 2023. "NTB has a lot of new and renewable energy potentials, whose utilization can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Deputy Governor of NTB Sitti Rohmi Djalilah remarked. Hence, she expressed optimism that the University of Nottingham, with its resources and expertise in research, would be able to support NTB to achieve the NZE targets by 2050. A representative of University of Nottingham, David Ouchterlonie, said that his side was pleased to be able to work along with the NTB Provincial Government. Ouchterlonie said that researchers of the University of Nottingham had a lot of expertise that could be applied to support the provincial government in achieving its NZE targets. The signing of the LOI was a good momentum to integrate various scientific disciplines to support NTB’s 2050 NZE target realization, Ouchterlonie remarked. The similarities of the 2050 NZE visions of the NTB Provincial Government and University of Nottingham are expected to facilitate smooth realization of the cooperation, he noted. He also noted that the collaboration could encourage the transfer of knowledge on climate change research activities as well as the exchange of ideas regarding education, waste management, and green infrastructure to realize the NZE targets.
